SURFAID began their humanitarian efforts in the Mentawai Islands when a group of surfers discovered that local people in this isolated area had little or no access to healthcare and basic human needs like clean water and healthy nutrition. More than 70 percent of the population of Mentawai and Nias, where SURFAID concentrates their efforts, lives below the poverty line dealing with malnutrition, disease and infection on a daily basis. SURFAID focuses on practical support such as water tank installations, providing mosquito nets to help with Malaria crisis, supplying medical equipment and medicine to health posts and assisting with materials to help build evacuation roads in case of tsunami.
It is our privilege to support SURFAID with medical diagnostic equipment to supply to health posts in Mentawai and Nias. These stethoscopes and blood pressure monitors are used in local healthcare events and disaster relief efforts.
