Beating Breast Cancer

Beating Breast Cancer
October 7, 2016 No comments

In February of 2008, my mom was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer – a huge shock to anyone who knew her. Small but mighty, my mom rarely suffered from the common cold, let alone anything more serious. During this time, I was more than 2,000 miles away at graduate school and unable to be with my mom as she went through surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment.

Wanting desperately to help her, I started learning everything I could about how certain lifestyle interventions like improving nutrition, avoiding toxins, managing stress, and getting better sleep could help improve health and potentially prevent recurrence. Thanks to a fantastic medical team, a positive attitude, and some lifestyle adjustments, my mom is vibrant and cancer-free for 8 years now. While nobody knows what the future holds, this journey has taught me and my family so much about doing what is in our control to help prevent disease, and for that I am grateful.
