Unsung Heroes, Nursing Edition: Luanne Doyland

Unsung Heroes, Nursing Edition: Luanne Doyland
May 6, 2016 No comments

Great nurses are made with great nursing instructors. Patty Olino, a California State University, Fresno nursing student nominated her phenomenal teacher and clinical instructor, Luanne Doyland as an Unsung Hero for National Nurses Week!

“She was phenomenal, so in touch with us as students and truly demonstrated and verbalized her passion for the profession. She became like a second mom to all of us when we were scared first semester students and she is still is up until this day! One day, during my second semester I was walking in the hallway and she could tell I was distraught or stressed, she brought me into her office. I told her about how difficult school was getting (on the verge of tears), and she reassured me that despite how overwhelming school may be, she saw complete faith in my overcoming all of it. She even pulled up her transcripts from when she was in school and said something along the lines of: “See, if I could pass with the grades I had, I know you can too!” I’m thankful every day that there are educators out there like her who truly love nursing and perpetuate positivity.”

-Patty Olino

“I became a nurse because I knew that I could not save the world but I knew that I could make a difference in the lives of individuals. Helping other people becoming the healthiest, both emotionally and physically, causes a ripple effect in the community. It was my goal to make a difference in the life of at least one of my patients a day. Nursing was a way that I felt I could strengthen others. By caring and “loving” them through their crisis (being a physical or emotionally crisis), their healing could begin and hopefully be more complete. All we have on this plane of existence is each other and nursing was a way to be “invited” into the personal space of those in crisis and become a part of their healing. My gift in return is to know that I made a difference in their lives, even if it was for a short encounter.”
