Unsung: Veralyn Deguzman

My parents inspire me. They work so hard. My father works seven days a week and my mother works until 3 AM every night. They work hard day in and day out, so that my sister and I can do better. Their work ethic and sacrificial love keeps me going. Nursing will not only take care of my parents financially, but also physically. And it’s not just my parents, nursing will let me heal other people as well.

What is your favorite concentration so far and why?

Labor and delivery. I loved my labor and delivery rotation because I think the nurses are just happier. Everyone on the floor is happy because a new life is being born. Everyday is something different.

What does crafting wellness mean to you?

It means taking care of a person’s overall health. Even though someone can be suffering from a disease or has an incurable disease, it’s making sure that person is happy.

Describe nursing school in one word.

What keeps you up at night?

Worrying about what time would be the optimal time to rest for class the next morning.
